Sidcup & Blackfen Area Guide

Sidcup & Blackfen snapshot

Sidcup is settling in to its new style, following an extensive town centre regeneration, and what better way to celebrate than with the opening of a glut of on-trend micro breweries. But with real ale comes real life and Sidcup, together with its neighbour Blackfen, offers family-friendly living with a quick commute into London and an excellent choice of schools.

Sidcup & Blackfen: where?

Located in the Greater London borough of Bexley, these two towns sit at the point where south east London meets the county of Kent. Close neighbours include Bexley, Welling, Chislehurst and Eltham, with the brighter lights of Blackheath and Greenwich not far away.

The BIG 3:

1. Transport:

    • Mainline station in Sidcup, located in Zone 5
    • Services to London Bridge, Waterloo East, Cannon Street and Charing Cross, via Woolwich Arsenal for the DLR and Crossrail
    • Quick access to the A20  and the A2

2. Schools:

Prep schools, grammars and two of the south east's most sought-after performing arts schools are in Sidcup and the local vicinity. There’s a ‘find-a-school’ facility on every one of our online property listings, where you can filter schools by age, type and Ofsted rating.

3. Attractions:

Sidcup Place is a go-to activity hub, with tennis courts, a children's playground, pitch and put, and plenty of open space. Nearby Sidcup Leisure Centre is home to two swimming pools and an array of sporting facilities, while golfers can join Sidcup Golf Course, with nine challenging holes and tee boxes. If you like following in famous footsteps, take a moment at Sidcup’s train station, where it’s alleged that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards had a conversation about music, leading to the formation of the Rolling Stones.

Sidcup & Blackfen property

While you will find Edwardian, Victorian and Arts and Craft properties, the vast majority of Sidcup’s housing stock is a legacy of the 1920s and 1930s. Penhill Park Estate, The Hollies, Marlborough Park, plus the Christchurch and Old Forge Way conservation areas, are sought-after locations. The Blackfen neighbourhood is dominated by popular 1930s Wates-built homes and chalet-style properties - many of which have been spaciously extended.
