We call it Bexley Borough’s hidden gem – an almost exclusively residential neighbourhood that finds favour with movers when they discover they can hop off the train at Barnehurst and hotfoot it to the Bird & Barrel a few doors down – Bexley Brewery’s first micro pub. The house prices are refreshingly appealing too.

Barnehurst: where?

It’s in the Greater London Borough of Bexley, nestled between Bexleyheath, Crayford and Northumberland Heath. Bluewater is approximately 15 minutes away by car, while Blackheath is just 20 minutes by road in the opposite direction.

1. Transport:

• Own mainline station with London services taking less than 45 minutes
• Direct lines to London Bridge, Waterloo East, Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Victoria
• Close to the A2, the M25 and the QEII river crossing

2. Schools:

Although there are three well-regarded primary schools in Barnehurst, all secondary school education takes places in Bexleyheath and Welling. There’s a ‘find-a-school’ facility on every one of our online property listings, where you can filter schools by age, type and Ofsted rating.

3. Transport:

Grab your clubs as Barnehurst Golf Club is one of the area's biggest attractions. There are also acres of open space in the shape of parks and woodlands dotted all over Barnehurst. Bursted Wood is a great place for dog walking, and children will love the play equipment at Martens Grove Park, Russell Park and at the open space by Manor Road/Northall Road.

Barnehurst property

The property built at the start of the 20th century is still a big part of the housing stock in Barnehurst today. There are some fantastic semi-detached houses available with beautiful bay windows to the front, as well as some affordable terraced homes that make excellent starter houses. Look out for 1930s extended properties that can offer as many as five bedrooms.
